Pokeberry Calyx Studs | (Phytolacca americana)

While many people dislike this invasive shrub, it is native to the East Coast and produces blue-black berries in abundance every summer that a variety of animals feast upon- from birds to squirrels, chipmunks and a host of other little creatures. People should avoid the berries though, because they can be toxic to us.

These earrings are made from the calyx- the part of the plant that holds the berry. After all the berries have been eaten we cast these little calyces in sterling silver. Their 5 petals and textured grooves resemble tiny wildflowers and make great little silver studs. Each pair is a unique casting, expect minor differences from the ones in the photos.

Pokeberry Calyx Earrings FAQs

  • This plant blooms in June, and by July/August the berries have formed and start to get eaten. Once the berries are off of the stalk we cast that piece.

This year we plan to make enough to last through spring, but they are so tiny and cute they tend to run out quickly. Check back towards the end of summer or fill out the waitlist form below and we will message you when we have them in stock.

  • Yes, some of our work from plant casting we mold and replicate, but pieces like these we keep one of a kind.

The plant produces a mountain of berries every year, and by harvesting them after the berries fall off we aren’t competing with the creatures in our backyard for food and we aren’t harming the plant.
