Oyster Mushroom Earrings | (Pleurotus citrinopileatus)
The business end of a mushroom is actually its underbelly. Spores are released from between the wavy gills, and this is the texture that we feature in this necklace.
Casting mushrooms has proven to be a challenge. The mushrooms have to be big enough so that the details don’t get muddled, but this has lead us to some very large chunky pieces. So to make these earrings we cast a large mushroom and sent it to someone with a 3D scanner, so that we could then play with, and shrink, a digital file.
We believe the resulting design is an excellent combination of an organic process and precise computer work. The earrings have natural movement, imperfections, and a unique character as well as being small and easy to wear.
