The leaves of the bird’s nest fern have fun, rippled edges and a thick central vein. In the wild, they grow in the crooks of tree branches, collecting water and debris that rains down from the canopy to build their own little footprint of soil. Each new leaf starts from the central apex and unfurls outwards, creating a wider and deeper cradle as it ages.
We sculpt these rings from sheet wax, and add a thick vein in the center to wrap into the ring band.
