Making Molds

Each finished piece is attached to a little rectangular frame that is sealed on both sides and banded together. We mix a two part rubber solution together and stick it under a vacuum to suck any air bubbles from the mixture.

Once the rubber is poured over the pieces we have to vacuum the mix a second time to ensure a solid mold. This process is done under a timer, it takes about 8 minutes, then it dries overnight. In the morning we cut the mold in two pieces and fish out the original piece. The negative in this mold can be filled with a hot wax and cast again for reproductions.
