Heather Flower Earrings (Calluna vulgaris)

Heather is one of the many plants that flowers so beautifully it is now used as a girl’s name. Originating from the Gaelic word haeddre, this plant sweeps across Europe into Western Asia, preferring acidic soil and full sun.

Heather has come to symbolize good luck and admiration. In England it was associated with rural poverty because it prefers to grow where most crops won’t, while in Poland the month of September is named after it because that’s when it blooms.

These earrings are a 3D sculpture of the flowering stalks. We cast them in sterling silver, and then apply a rose gold plating. The final step is removing the outer layer of plating so that the silver shines on the surface while the rose color warms the depths. This two-tone effect is one of our favorite new techniques.

  • Sterling silver w/ rose gold accents

  • 3D printed design

  • 2” (5 cm) drop
